RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliando nossos casos de fratura-avulsão da inserção tibial do ligamento cruzado posterior, observamos que uma imagem em forma de U estava presente na radiografia plana anteroposterior do joelho afetado, mesmo nos casos em que a visão do perfil do joelho era inconclusiva quanto à fratura por avulsão do ligamento cruzado posterior (LCP) tibial, uma fratura “oculta”. Portanto, buscamos investigar se havia uma correlação anatômica entre esse sinal radiológico U e a inserção tibial do LCP, além de verificar a confiabilidade intra e interexaminadores desse sinal na prática clínica. Métodos: Os dados das larguras e alturas da área de inserção tibial do LCP e da área do sinal U foram medidos e comparados com a maior largura da tíbia. Além disso, foram analisadas a confiabilidade e a reprodutibilidade dessa imagem. Resultados: A altura da área do sinal U e da área de inserção anatômica do ligamento cruzado posterior não mostraram diferença, e ambas estavam localizadas topograficamente nos dois quartos centrais da extremidade proximal da tíbia. A avaliação radiográfica mostrou excelentes taxas de concordância Kappa entre interobservador e intraobservador, com alta confiabilidade e reprodutibilidade. Conclusão: O sinal U é uma característica radiográfica da fratura por avulsão tibial do LCP que pode vista na radiografia AP. Existe uma alta associação entre as proporções da altura da área do sinal U na radiografia e da altura anatômica da inserção tibial do LCP RM local em relação à maior largura da tíbia proximal. O sinal radiográfico U mostrou excelentes taxas de concordância interobservador e intraobservador, com valores de Kappa superiores a 0,8. ABSTRACT Objective: By analyzing our cases of posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) tibial avulsion fracture, we noted that a U-shaped image was present in the anteroposterior plain radiographs view of the affected knee, even in cases where the profile view of the knee had been inconclusive as to tibial PCL avulsion fracture, a “hidden” fracture. Therefore, we aimed to investigate whether there was an anatomical correlation between this radiological U sign and the tibial insertion of the PCL and to ascertain the intra- and inter-rater reliability of this sign in clinical practice. Methods: The data of the widths and heights area of the PCL tibial insertion area, and the U sign area were measured and compared to the largest width of the tibia. Two moreover, the reliability and reproducibility of this imaging were analyzed. Results: The areas height of the U-sign area and the anatomical insertion area of the posterior cruciate ligament showed no difference, and both were topographically located in the two central quarters of the proximal end of the tibia. The radiographic assessment showed excellent Kappa agreement rates between interobserver and intraobserver, with high reliability and reproducibility. Conclusion: The U sign is a radiographic feature of PCL tibial avulsion fracture seen on the radiograph AP view, there is a high association between the ratios of the U-sign area height in the X-ray and the anatomical height of the PCL tibial insertion site MRI with the largest width of the proximal tibia. The radiographic U sign showed excellent rates of interobserver and intraobserver agreement with Kappa values higher than 0.8. Abstract Native cassava starch was gelatinized under different pretreatment conditions (preheating temperature, starch concentration and heating time) and spray-dried. A rotational compound central design was used to test the three independent variables: the preheating temperature, starch concentration, and heating time, and the behavior of the system was assessed by response surface methodology. The results showed a significant effect of both the preheating temperature and heating time on the cold viscosity. The combination of the preheating temperature and starch concentration affected the crystallinity, enthalpy change, solubility, and final viscosity. Modification by spray-drying resulted in a decrease in the crystalline regions, and enthalpy change, as well as an increase in the cold viscosity. The optimal conditions for obtaining partially gelatinized cassava starch with high cold viscosity and lower breakdown, desirable characteristics for commercial pregelatinized starch, are as follows: starch concentration of 25%, preheating temperature of 52 °C, and processing heating time of 10 min.

RESUMO O uso de florestas de Eucalyptus tem se tornado cada vez mais expressivo no Brasil, sobretudo por conta da excelente produção em termos volumétricos por elas alcançadas e pelas boas características da madeira obtida. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo identificar os melhores espaçamentos de plantio para florestas clonais de um híbrido interespecífico de Eucalyptus grandis e Eucalyptus urophylla, de forma a maximizar a produção de biomassa do fuste por hectare buscando a área vital por árvore em um intervalo que favorecesse o crescimento em diâmetro e a formação de madeira de maior densidade básica. Os dados foram disponibilizados pela empresa Duratex Florestal e são provenientes de um teste clonal exploratório de 72 meses de idade. O delineamento estatístico utilizado foi o sistemático com fator quantitativo contínuo, com 16 tratamentos e 40 repetições, considerando que a variação entre os tratamentos foi o espaçamento entre as árvores e a entrelinha possuía um espaçamento constante de três metros. Com este arranjo, o experimento possuiu área vital por árvore variando de 1,50 m2 (6.667 árvores por hectare) até 15,75 m2 (635 árvores por hectare). A maior produção em volume e biomassa do fuste por hectare ocorreu nos tratamentos com espaçamento de plantio adensado - 3 x 0,50 m; nos espaçamentos amplos, a partir de 9,00 m² de área vital por planta, a produção de volume e biomassa do fuste por árvore foi maior. Foi observado um aumento na densidade básica ponderada da madeira até a área vital de 4,95 m² por árvore, a partir desta área vital, a densidade básica se manteve praticamente inalterada.

ABSTRACT The use of forests of Eucalyptus has become more expressive in Brazil, mostly because of the excellent production in volumetric terms reached by them and the good characteristics of the obtained wood. The present work was developed to search the best plantations spacings for clonal forests of a interspecific hybrid of Eucalyptus grandis and Eucalyptus urophylla, to maximize the production of the stem biomass per hectare. The data were made available by the company 'Duratex Florestal' and are proceeding from a clonal test at the age of 72 months. The used statistician delineation was the systematic one with continuous quantitative factor, 16 treatments and 40 repetitions, considering that the variation between the treatments was the spacing between the trees and the space between rows was constant with three meters. Along with this arrangement, the vital area per tree was 1,50m2 (6.667 trees per hectare) to 15,75m2 (635 trees per hectare). The highest production volume and stem biomass per hectare occurred in spacing treatments with dense planting - 3x0, 50m, in large spacings (from 9.00 m² per plant life), it was on volume and biomass per tree stem. In this study, it was observed an increase in the weighted basic density of timber to the vital area of 4.95 m² per tree. From this vital area, the basic density remained virtually unchanged.

RESUMO: Este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar os efeitos dos parâmetros de extrusão sobre as características físicas de misturas extrusadas de farinha de folhas de mandioca e amido. O delineamento central composto rotacional, com quatro variáveis independentes, e a metodologia de superfície de resposta foram utilizados para avaliar os resultados dos parâmetros de cor (L*, a*, b*), índice de absorção de água, índice de solubilidade em água e propriedades de pasta, de acordo com as variações da percentagem de farinha de folha (1,5 a 7,5%), da temperatura de extrusão (60 a 100ºC), da rotação da rosca (175-231rpm) e da umidade (20 a 30%). As condições do processo de extrusão afetaram a cor, os índices de absorção de água e solubilidade em água e as propriedades de pasta das misturas. As intermediárias testadas dos parâmetros variáveis levaram à obtenção de produtos extrusados com maior viscosidade fria e índice de absorção de água e de cor clara, qualidades desejáveis para produtos de preparação rápida.

ABSTRACT: The current research aimed to evaluate the effects of extrusion parameters on the physical characteristics of extruded blends of cassava leaf flour and starch. A factorial central composite design with four independent variables and the response surface methodology were used to evaluate the results of color parameters (L*, a*, b*), water absorption index, water solubility index and paste properties, according to the variations in the leaf flour percentage (1.5 to 7.5%), extrusion temperature (60 to 100ºC), screw speed (175 to 231rpm) and moisture (20 to 30%). Extrusion conditions affect color, water absorption and water solubility indexes and paste properties of blends. The intermediate tested conditions of variable parameters lead to obtain extruded products with higher cold viscosity and water absorption index and light color, desirable qualities for rapid preparation products.

RESUMO: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a farinha de batata cultivar 'Ibituaçu' como matéria prima para o desenvolvimento de produtos extrusados. A farinha de batata foi processada em extrusor mono-rosca seguindo delineamento central composto rotacional para três fatores, sendo considerados como variáveis independentes a temperatura na 3ª zona, a umidade e a rotação da rosca. Os produtos obtidos foram caracterizados quanto ao índice de expansão (IE), volume específico (VE), índice de solubilidade em água (ISA), índice de absorção de água (IAA), dureza (D) e cor (L*, a* e b*). Os resultados mostraram efeito das variáveis independentes sobre as características físicas dos produtos. O IE dos produtos variou de 3,22 a 5,47, o VE de 2,08 e 11,23mL.g-1, o ISA de 32,88 a 63,72%, o IAA de 4,02 a 8,97 g gel.g-1, D de 7,54 a 29,85kgf, L* de 53,89 a 68,72, a* de 5,59 a 6,92, b* de 16,6 a 22,6. Nas condições de elevada temperatura, baixa umidade, e rotação da rosca intermediária são obtidos produtos extrusados com características físicas desejadas para produtos expandidos.

ABSTRACT: This study aimed to evaluate potato flour from 'Ibituaçú' cultivar as raw material for extrudates. Potato flour was processed in a single-screw extruder following central composite rotational design for three factors, being considered as independent parameters: temperature in the third zone, humidity and screw speed. The products obtained were characterized by expansion index (EI), specific volume (SV), water solubility index (WSI), water absorption index (WAI), hardness (H), color (L*, a* and b*). Results showed an effect of the independent parameters on the extruded physical characteristics. The parameters varied from: 3.22 to 5.47 (EI); 2.08 to 11.23 mL g-1 (SV), 32.88 to 63.72% (WSI), 4.02 to 8.97 g gel g-1 (WAI), 7.54 to 29.85 kgf (H), 53.89 to 68.72 (L*), 5.59 to 6.92 (a*), 16.6 to 22.6 (b*). It was concluded that expanded products with desired physical characteristics are obtained at high temperature; low humidity and intermediate screw speed.

Growth functions with inflection points following a diphasic model, can be adjusted by two approaches using segmented regression or the sum of two functions. In both cases, there are two functions, one for each phase, with inflection and stability points. However, when they are summed, the result is a new function and the points of inflection and stability are different from those obtained from using each function individually. A method to determine these points in a diphasic logistics sum of functions is suggested and the results obtained from fitting the models to eucalyptus growth data showed a better fit of the logistic diphasic sum as compared with segmented regression and monophasic logistic models.

A cassava-based puffed snack was produced using a single screw extruder to determine the effect of the raw material composition (cassava leaf flour and moisture) and the process parameters (extrusion temperature and screw speed) on the physical characteristics of an extruded-expanded snack. A central composite rotational design, including four factors with 30 treatments, was used with the following as dependent variables: expansion index, specific volume, water solubility index, water absorption index, color (L*, a*, b*), and hardness. Under conditions of low moisture content (12 to 14%), low percentage of cassava leaf flour (2 to 4%), and intermediate conditions of extrusion temperature (100°C) and screw speed (230rpm), it was possible to obtain puffed snack products with desirable characteristics.

Adjusting autoregressive and mixed models to growth data fits discontinuous functions, which makes it difficult to determine critical points. In this study we propose a new approach to determine the critical stability point of cattle growth using a first-order autoregressive model and a mixed model with random asymptote, using the deterministic portion of the models. Three functions were compared: logistic, Gompertz, and Richards. The Richards autoregressive model yielded the best fit, but the critical growth values were adjusted very early, and for this purpose the Gompertz model was more appropriate.

O curto tempo de cozimento e capacidade para misturar vários ingredientes fizeram da extrusão um meio para o desenvolvimento de produtos alimentares de baixo custo e nutricionalmente melhorados. Neste trabalho foram avaliados os efeitos da umidade, da temperatura de extrusão e da quantidade de farinha de açafrão misturada com a farinha de mandioca nas características físicas de snacks expandidos. O processo de extrusão foi realizado em um extrusor monorrosca, utilizando o delineamento central composto rotacional com quatro fatores. Os resultados mostraram efeito dos parâmetros de extrusão sobre as variáveis dependentes. Alta expansão, baixo escurecimento, baixo índice de solubilidade em água, índice de absorção de água médio e elevada crocância, características desejáveis para snacks extrusados, podem ser obtidas em condições de 12% de umidade, 5% de farinha de açafrão, 105º C de temperatura e 250 rpm de rotação do parafuso. Esses resultados apontam para o potencial ainda pouco explorado do uso de farinhas de mandioca e açafrão como matéria-prima para o desenvolvimento de snacks.

Short cooking time and ability to blend varieties of food ingredients have made extrusion cooking a medium for low-cost and nutritionally improved food products. The effect of moisture, extrusion temperature and amount of turmeric flour mixed with cassava flour on physical characteristic of puffed snacks was evaluated in this work. Extrusion process was carried out using a single-screw extruder in a factorial central composite design with four factors. Results showed effect of extrusion parameters on dependents variables. High expansion, low browning, low water solubility index, intermediate water absorption index and high crispness desirable characteristics to puffed snacks are obtained in conditions of 12% moisture, 5% turmeric flour, 105º C of temperature and 250 rpm of screw speed. These paper point to the potential still unexplored of the use of flours of cassava and turmeric as raw materials in the development of extruded puffed snacks.

Este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar o efeito da temperatura de extrusão e da rotação da rosca sobre as propriedades físicas, reológicas e sensoriais de snacks de mandioca e maracujá produzidos em extrusor mono-rosca. Foi utilizado o delineamento central composto rotacional, com 11 tratamentos, considerando como variáveis dependentes: índice de expansão (IE), volume específico (VE), índice de solubilidade em água (ISA), índice de absorção em água (IAA), cor (L*, a*, b*) e propriedades de pasta (RVA). Os produtos foram aromatizados e analisados para a aceitação global. Os resultados obtidos demonstraram efeitos significativos da temperatura e da rotação sobre as propriedades estudadas e boa aceitação dos produtos sabor chocolate.

This research had as objective to evaluate the effect of extrusion temperature and screw speed on physical and rheological properties, as well as, the sensory acceptance of cassava and passion fruit snacks produced in single-screw extruder. A central composite design with 11 treatments was used, considering as dependent variables: expansion index (EI), specific volume (SV), water solubility index (WSI), water absorption index (WAI), color (L*, a*, b*) and pasting properties (RVA). The products were flavored and analyzed for global acceptance. The results showed significant effects of temperature and screw speed on the dependent variables. The chocolate flavored snacks obtained good acceptance.

The opportunity to supplement common cassava biscuits with a product of higher nutritional value meets consumer expectations. In this work it was studied the effects of process parameters and flaxseed addition on physical properties of expanded snacks. Extrusion process was carried out using a single screw extruder in a factorial central composite rotatable design with four factors: flaxseed flour percentage (0-20%), moisture (12-20%), extrusion temperature (90-130 °C) and screw speed (190-270). The effect of extrusion variables was investigated in terms of expansion index, specific volume, water absorption index, water solubility index, color parameters (L*, a* ,b*) and hardness. The data analysis showed that variable parameters of the extrusion process and flaxseed flour affected physical properties of puffed snacks. Among the experimental conditions used in the present study, expanded snack products with good physical properties can be obtained under the conditions of 10% flaxseed flour, 230 rpm screw speed, temperature of 90 °C and moisture of 12%.

RESUMO A seringueira [Hevea brasiliensis (Willd. ex Adr. de Juss.) Müell. Arg.] pode ser afetada pela ocorrência do fungo Oidium heveae, causador de uma das mais importantes doenças da seringueira, o oídio. Este trabalho teve o objetivo de conhecer alterações nos pigmentos fotossintéticos, um indicador de estresse oxidativo, em mudas de três clones de Hevea brasiliensis, RRIM600, GT1 e PR255, sob infecção por Oidium heveae. O experimento foi conduzido em ambiente aberto sob condições fotoperiódicas naturais e no início do período experimental, as plantas de seringueira que seriam infectadas foram pulverizadas com uma suspensão aquosa contendo Oidium heveae na concentração de 16 x 104 conídios mL-1. No dia da inoculação e após 48, 96 144 e 192 h, foram coletadas amostras foliares para determinação dos pigmentos fotossintéticos. Degradação nos pigmentos fotossintéticos no período de infecção foi observada nos clones de seringueira estudados; portanto, houve estresse oxidativo nos clones de seringueira. Não foi identificado material genético promissor para trabalhos de melhoramento genético visando à tolerância ao estresse por Oidium heveae.

ABSTRACT The rubber tree [Hevea brasiliensis (Willd. ex Adr. Of Juss.) Muell. Arg.] can be affected by the occurrence of the fungus Oidium heveae, which causes one of the most important diseases of rubber trees, powdery mildew. This work meet changes in photosynthetic pigments, an indicator of oxidative stress, in seedlings of three Hevea brasiliensis clones, RRIM 600, GT1 and PR255, under infection in Oidium heveae. The experiment was conducted in an open environment under natural photoperiod conditions and at the beginning of the trial, the rubber plants that would be inoculated were sprayed with an aqueous suspension containing Oidium heveae at a concentration of 16 x 104 conidia mL-1. On the day of inoculation and after 48, 96, 144 and 192 h leaf samples were collected for the determination of photosynthetic pigments. Degradation in photosynthetic pigments in the period of infection was observed in rubber tree clones studied; thus, there is oxidative stress in clones of rubber trees. No promising genetic material for genetic improvement work stress tolerance by Oidium heveae was identified.

Neste trabalho, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito das condições de extrusão sobre as propriedades físicas de produtos extrusados. Foi utilizado o delineamento central composto rotacional com quatro variáveis independentes (2(4)) e a metodologia de superfície de resposta para avaliar os resultados de índice de expansão, volume específico, índice de absorção de água, índice de solubilidade em água e cor, de acordo com as variações de temperatura de extrusão, rotação da rosca, porcentagem de farelo de mandioca e porcentagem de farinha de soja. Os resultados indicam que é possível produzir novos produtos extrusados com boas propriedades físicas a partir de misturas de farinha de soja, fécula e farelo de mandioca.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the extrusion conditions on physical properties of extruded products. A factorial central composite design (2(4)) with four independent variables and the response surface methodology were used to evaluate the results of expansion index, specific volume, water absorption index, water solubility index and color, according to the variations in barrel temperature, screw speed, percentage of cassava bran and percentage of soya flour. The results indicate that is possible to produce new extruded products with good physical properties from blends of soya flour, cassava starch and bran.

Dada a ampla aceitação do biscoito de polvilho azedo no Brasil e a qualidade nutricional da farinha de quinoa, este trabalho objetivou avaliar o efeito da temperatura de extrusão, rotação da rosca, umidade e porcentagem de farinha de quinoa sobre as propriedades físicas de snacks expandidos. O processo foi realizado em extrusor monorrosca, seguindo o delineamento central composto rotacional para quatro fatores. Foi observado o efeito da umidade e da porcentagem de farinha de quinoa sobre o índice de expansão e volume específico. Houve um aumento pronunciado na solubilidade das misturas com o processo de extrusão, com efeitos significativos de todos os parâmetros de processo no ISA. Maior índice de absorção de água (IAA) foi observado em alta temperatura, baixa umidade e menor porcentagem de farinha de quinoa. Temperatura e porcentagem de farinha de quinoa tiveram efeito sobre a cor dos produtos. Foi observado o efeito quadrático positivo de farinha de quinoa na mistura sobre a dureza dos produtos. Misturas de polvilho azedo e farinha de quinoa têm um bom potencial para utilização como matéria-prima na produção de snacks extrusados com boas propriedades físicas.

Given the broad acceptance of sour cassava starch biscuits in Brazil and the nutritional quality of quinoa flour, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of extrusion temperature, screw speed, moisture, and amount of quinoa flour on the physical properties of puffed snacks. Extrusion process was carried out using a single-screw extruder in a factorial central composite design with four factors. Effects of moisture and amount of quinoa flour on the expansion index and specific volume of snacks were observed. There was a pronounced increase in water solubility index of blends with the extrusion process with significant effects of all process parameters on the WSI. Higher water absorption index (WAI) was observed under high temperature, low moisture, and lower quinoa flour amount. Temperature and amount of quinoa flour influenced the color of the snacks. A positive quadratic effect of quinoa flour on hardness of products was observed. Blends of sour cassava starch and quinoa flour have good potential for use as raw material in production of extruded snacks with good physical properties.

Several biological phenomena have a behavior over time mathematically characterized by a strong increasing function in the early stages of development, then by a less pronounced growth, sometimes showing stability. The separation between these phases is very important to the researcher, since the maintenance of a less productive phase results in uneconomical activity. In this report we present methods of determining critical points in logistic functions that separate the early stages of growth from the asymptotic phase, with the aim of establishing a stopping critical point in the growth and on this basis determine differences in treatments. The logistic growth model is fitted to experimental data of imbibition of araribá seeds (Centrolobium tomentosum). To determine stopping critical points the following methods were used: i) accelerating growth function, ii) tangent at the inflection point, iii) segmented regression; iv) modified segmented regression; v) non-significant difference; and vi) non-significant difference by simulation. The analysis of variance of the abscissas and ordinates of the breakpoints was performed with the objective of comparing treatments and methods used to determine the critical points. The methods of segmented regression and of the tangent at the inflection point lead to early stopping points, in comparison with other methods, with proportions ordinate/asymptote lower than 0.90. The non-significant difference method by simulation had higher values of abscissas for stopping point, with an average proportion ordinate/asymptote equal to 0.986. An intermediate proportion of 0.908 was observed for the acceleration function method.
